Summary
The Jaguar XK120 was unveiled in 1948, it was originally intended as a testbed for Jaguar's new XK engine. Due to the sheer beauty of the car, the response was fantastic, causing Sir William Lyons to put the car into production. The XK120 was the world's fastest production car up until 1955 when the Mercedes 300SL was released. Production of the FHC began in 1951 and all XK120 production finished in 1954.
This Jaguar XK120 FHC was first registered on 6th July 1953, with links to Ecurie Ecosse race team, it is today in beautiful unrestored condition and well-known to be one of the most original XK120s in existence.
History
Mr. John George Douglas took delivery of his new Jaguar XK120 FHC on 30th July 1953 in Aberfeldy, Scotland and subsequently enjoyed it until 1958 when it was sold to Mr. Nicoll. The Nicoll family had links to Ecurie Ecosse Jaguar Racing Team and many of the drivers used XK120s as their daily transportation. At this point during the late 50s, Ecurie Ecosse stickers were pasted on the bonnet and boot lid, where we still see them to this day! The car was next acquired by Robert Kerr in the mid-60s, a well-known Jaguar enthusiast, who owned the car twice during his lifetime. He competed in various hillclimbs with the car, but gave the car little use otherwise. Since the end of Robert's ownership in the late 1970s, the car moved out of Scotland and has had very few owners since. This XK120 was also used as a main feature for Philip Porter's book titled "Original Jaguar XK, The Restorer's Guide" in 2003.
The documentation with this XK120 is fantastic, every part of the car's history is very well known including letters between many of the owners and a list of the names of every owner with dates to match. The file contains a large number of receipts from various maintenance jobs carried out throughout its life. The original green log book is present and filled out; MOT history dating back to the early 1970s, along with the previously mentioned letters proves that the shown mileage of 81,000 is correct. There are many photos of the car throughout its history which are also a nice addition. It is clear that the car has been cared for exceptionally well, without losing any of the provenance of originality.
Exterior and Interior
The XK120 amazingly retains the majority of its original paint, with only a few bodywork blemishes through its 64-year life. The paint has fared well and the rare Pastel Blue Colour looks beautiful. The chrome is in very good condition with no pitting and just the usual wear marks, another testament to the caring owners. The original Biscuit leather seats have worn well and have always been treated with the necessary leather care products. The burr walnut wood that covers the dashboard, doors and window frames is in perfect condition with absolutely no scratches or cracks. The original blue carpets are present bar the section under the driving pedals which has been replaced due to wear and the headlining is good with no sagging.
Mechanicals
Due to regular services and a brilliant maintenance record, the car is mechanically sound. It had £2,600 worth of light recommissioning work in late 2016 including brakes and cooling. The car was put in for a full service at a well-known classic Jaguar specialist prior to sale. It is therefore a joy to drive with its precise 4-speed Moss gearbox and beautiful XK straight-six engine. Being behind the wheel always feels like an occasion!

This Jaguar XK120 FHC is a stylish and elegant 1950s coupe, which is noted to be matching numbers.
Under the bonnet sits the original 3.4-litre DOHC inline-six, which is coupled to the correct four-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
Accompanied by a Jaguar Fixed Head Coupe book documenting its extensive and storied history, the car was entered into the Pebble Beach Concours of Elegance, and it is noted that the judges placed the vehicle highly in the ‘best preserved’ class.
The odometer indicates 82,700 miles.
This XK120 comes finished in the particularly tasteful combination of Pastel Blue over Biscuit leather.
There is a chrome front bumper and rear overriders, black painted twin exhausts, as well as colour-coded painted steel wheels with chrome accents and Jaguar badges.
Equipment includes a four-spoke steering wheel, a full complement of Smiths instrument dials, grey and blue carpets, and driver and passenger sun visors.
It also features a valved Ekco CR152 push-button radio, from the early 1950s, which is noted to have been fitted before 1960, and to have been overhauled in 1989.
Accompanying is a comprehensive history file, Jaguar Service Manual, Spare Parts Catalogue, Heritage Certificate, Production Record Trace Certificate, and two keys.
It also comes with the correct original tools including spanners, pliers and sockets, as well as a track pump, and even the Tecalemit grease gun is in situ.
Specific notes from the seller include: the roof has been repainted. It now presents with minor blemishes on the bonnet, the interior shows age-related wear.
The vehicle is understood to be exempt from mandatory MOT testing due to its age.
