A professionally restored example of Jaguar’s coveted 1950s open-top sports car in its purest form, benefiting from a body-off-chassis refurbishment.
It is powered by its original 3.4-litre inline-six ‘XK’ engine, in high-compression (9:1) SE specification with the C-Type cylinder head, delivering 180hp to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
This XK120 Roadster is finished in its original colour of Birch Grey.
It was originally delivered to Zurich, Switzerland, in June 1954. It now bears a French registration but was imported into the UK prior to Brexit, where it remains, under the Notice of Vehicle Arrival (NOVA), so there are no import taxes for UK buyers.
If remaining in the UK, the next owner will need to apply to register the car with the DVLA.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
This XK120 Roadster is finished in the elegant combination of Birch Grey over a red leather-trimmed cabin (with upholstery sourced from leading Jaguar specialist BAS Ltd) and matching red Wilton carpets.
It rides on a set of 16-inch wheels with full-face colour-coded covers, Avon Turbosteel tyres, and removable rear spats.
The specification includes a black mohair hood, which folds down into a compartment behind the seats.
Accompanying the sale are a spare wheel, the French registration document, many SNG Barratt invoices, a grease pump, and full weather equipment including new canvas side curtains.
CONDITION
The seller reports that the car displayed small imperfections before its body-off restoration.
Please refer to the photo gallery to assess exterior and interior condition.
The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults.
The most recent roadworthiness inspection was reportedly conducted in December 2020, resulting in a pass with an advisory for the emissions.
SERVICE HISTORY
An engine tune-up and pedal assembly adjustment were carried out in May 2022.
Prior to this, Heritage Classiques Automobiles Paris performed a service, which included replacing the various fluids.
The seller states that as part of its restoration, every part is new or reconditioned, all mechanicals rebuilt, the engine dyno-tested, and it benefits from an alternator conversion plus additional cooling fan. All of the work was performance by a prestigious restoration workshop in Paris.

Car returns to market 5/25

Seller's description:
1954 Jaguar XK120 OTS
COLOUR: Birch Grey
MILEAGE: 600 since restoration
PRICE: £89, 995. 00 – Open to offers
Having received a full restoration by Garage Heritage Classiques in France, we have to doff our caps, as in its original Birch grey the car presents incredibly, with some of the best shut lines we’ve seen on a 120, or any 50’s car for that matter, truly stunning.
The attention didn’t stop at the bodywork, the engine, chassis, suspension and brakes have all been overhauled too and the car drives as well as it looks. We will have the car rolling road tuned, in order to extract its full potential before a new owner takes the key, as it really is spot on, that’s the only thing we can do to make it any better!
The interior was fully re-trimmed to a very high standard, chrome re-plated and all of the fittings and fixtures are just so. This car would have commended north of £200k a few years back, but the market has dropped somewhat since, so this is a true bargain for the amount and calibre of car you’re getting. I believe the restoration itself ran into £120k plus! We have a thick folder supporting this, with all parts sourced from marque specialists such as SNG Barrett and the like.
Chassis 661160 was built in 1954 as a Birch grey RHD car and sent to Emil Frey in Zurich and retains its original matching numbers gearbox, engine and paint scheme. The interior has been changed slightly in that instead of biscuit & red, it is only red now, but we think it suits the car down to a tee and hasn’t removed the original wishes of the first owner, which is a nice touch.
The full restoration left absolutely no stone unturned. In order to prepare the car for sale, HPC Classics have thoroughly inspected it in our workshop and have rectified the issues we found, so you should have trouble-free motoring, as much as is practicable in a 1950’s sports car that is!
The car is currently registered in France, meaning that no additional taxes will be payable to retain it there, and only local fees for the rest of Europe. Or and very luckily, if you wish to be its first U. K owner, the car has a declaration that it was imported here pre-Brexit! So again, no additional tax on top. HPC Classics will gladly assist with the paperwork too, so that you can be the first person to drive her officially on the road of the United Kingdom.
The car comes with a large history file full of its restoration invoices, a heritage certificate from Jaguar and an XK series booklet.
If you’re looking for an XK120 OTS, then this has to be one of the best available. Besides those with alloy bodies and period race history, but then they’ll be three times the price. What a fabulous motor car, for very sensible money. It will look at home in any collection, will it be yours?
