The 1953 Geneva Motor Show Car

Also believed to be Ex Richard Burton, kept at his home in Celigny, Switzerland for many years.

As the JHT certificate says, the factory archive records show that 661051 was a "Show Car". It does not name the show, but the dealer to which the car was allocated was a Swiss dealer, so the conclusion for the Geneva show is obvious. It was held 5-15 March 1953.

However, doubt is cast upon a role of 661051 at Geneva in an article by the owner of 661048, Roger Mills, who wrote that the first owner of 661048 was told at Moores of Brighton in 1953 that 661048 "had been a last-minute replacement by Jaguar on their stand at the Geneva Salon and it had been gifted to Moore's by Sir William in gratitude for this. There was a small mileage on the speedometer, which supported the story." See XK Gazette #114, March 2007. It is hard to imagine that Lyons gave away such a car, and the story re Geneva might readily be disregarded as a salesman's spiel. However, the critical support for 661048 being at Geneva is that the photo of the show, admittedly in black and white, appears to show a Cream car with duo colour trim (correct for 661048), and painted wire wheels. 661051 was a Pastel Green car with Suede Green (single colour) trim, which appears to decide the issue. 661048 is recorded by jaguar as despatched on 25 March 1953 so it was apparently returned direct to Jaguar after the show, and then sent out to Moores. Presumably it had been promised to Moores at an earlier date, having been built back on 19 January 1953.;

Love to see some contemporary corroboration of the Richard Burton story. Have any documents been passed down?.

Hello John Elmgreen, No matter how many times I read the above mentioned Jaguar Heritage Certificate it states "1953 Geneva Motor Show Car" on it .... I have honestly had an eye test recently.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
