Car was at auction 9/11
www.bonhams.com/eur/auction/19289/lot/282/

Auction description:
Lot No: 282
1951 Jaguar XK120 Roadster
Registration no. PVT 101
Chassis no. 660892
Engine no. W3373
Sold for £84,000 inclusive of Buyer's Premium

This matching-numbers XK120 roadster was purchased by the current vendor in June 2007 from marque specialists JD Classics, having been restored to concours condition during the early-to-mid-1990s while in the hands of previous owner, J Stewart. Concours results achieved since completion consist of three 1st places at JDC events in 1994/95 and one 2nd place in 2000, plus the '60 XKs for XK 60' winner's award at Goodwood in 2008.
'PVT 101' has been maintained by recognised specialists Twyford Motors and K&N Classic Cars of Bosham, including a recent suspension rebuild, while in 2007 JD Classics repainted the car following a minor accident. The XK remains unmolested and to substantially original specification - it still has drum brakes and there are no seat belts, indicators or windscreen washer - the only concessions to 'modernity' being 12-volt electrics and a high-torque starter motor. Only 6,000 miles have been covered since the 1990s rebuild and the car is described as in generally excellent condition. Finished in silver with red leather interior, it comes with sundry invoices, a photographic record of the restoration, old-style logbook, current MoT/tax and Swansea V5C registration document.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
