Car returned to auction in '07
www.motorbase.com/auctionlot/by-id/960842286/

Auction description:
Lot 430: 1951 Jaguar XK120 Competition Roadster
Goodwood Festival of Speed, Bonhams (22nd June 2007)
This original righthand-drive XK120 Roadster was first despatched to South Africa from whence it returned to the UK in 1989. The car had been meticulously up-rated to competition specification, although it is believed that it was not raced during its time in South Africa. The present owner acquired the car around three years ago for the purpose of competing in the popular XK120 Challenge, and although it had already been modified for competition, nevertheless entrusted the car to specialists DK Engineering to prepare it for the forthcoming season.

The car is powered by a 3.8-litre version of Jaguar's classic twin-cam 'six', first introduced to the XK range on the XK150, breathing through triple Weber 45DCOE carburettors fitted to a special Lynx water-cooled inlet manifold. Power is transmitted via a later all-synchromesh E-Type four-speed gearbox, though the original 'box remains available. Steering has been up-rated to rack-and-pinion operation (replacing the original Burman re-circulating ball type) while a Salisbury Powr-Lok differential improves traction. Adjustable shock absorbers have been fitted at the front and servo-assisted disc brakes all round.

In the interests of safety the interior has been fitted with a full removable roll-bar, improved seats and full harness seat belts. A safety fuel cell and plumbed-in fire extinguisher instil peace of mind at track events. Over the last four years in excess of 50,000 has been spent on this highly usable and exciting XK120, which must be a very worthy contender for the XK Challenge or the many rallies and other events for which it is eligible.
