The ad reads:

Manufactured and registered in 1950 (cherrished registration number OXK 7 included)

Finished in Jaguar Signal Red with Buiscuit & Red Leather Interior with a Fawn Hood

Chassis Number 6600032 / Engine Number W1164/7 /Body Number F 1121

The Jaguar XK120 was manufactured between 1949 and 1954 being launched at the 1948 London Motor Show. The car caused a sensation and persuaded William Lyons to put it into production as a standard model.

The first cars manufactured in 1948 and 1949 had hand built aluminum bodies on an ash frame. Jaguar built 240 of these alloy bodied cars prior to moving to a more mass production XK120 in order to meet the demand for this popular model. With the 1950 model year a production version had a steel pressed body with alloy doors, bonnet, and trunk skin. Other features included torsion bar front suspension, and a removable windscreen.

The car on offer here, built as a RHD car was exported and first registered in Sweden where it was kept until 1988 at which time it was re-imported to the UK. It had started out Red with Biscuit leather interior and underwent a restoration and colour change to Old English White with Red Leather.

In 1987 it was purchased for £82,000 and returned to the UK it underwent a total ground up restoration carried out by Jaguar Specialist Nigel Dawes putting the car back to its original factory specification at a cost of some £54,000.

With the car is a stunning history file which includes a photographic record of its rebuild, a Jaguar Heritage Certificate and the old Swedish log book, as well as full wet weather gear (pram hood, side screens, and tonneau) and tool roll.

This fine example of an early lightweight bodied XK 120 is correct in every detail and would stand out an any collection.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
