Car was apparently in the US then exported to the UK

1949 XK120 Alloy roadster 'No.3'
We were given a 'tip off' that the third ever right hand drive alloy XK120 was available for sale in New York. This historic car, thought by many to have been destroyed long ago, is thought to have been exported to the US for show purposes, but its whereabouts since the early 50's was a mystery. Still with its correct engine and gearbox, and in remarkably good condition, we brought it back to the UK, and Paul used it for many events during the summer of '99.
It was eventually sold to a gentleman in the Channel Islands, who had it refurbished by
Lynx. The restorers returned it to its correct livery of black with biscuit leather, and
spats, and it now shares garage space with 'no. 2', the second ever RHD 120!

Briggs Cunningham had an XK120 at the beginning of 1950 - Raced by Sam Collier at Palm Beach in January, and by Cunningham at Mount Equinox in May. Looking through these earliest XK120s, this one could possibly have been the Cunningham car. What do you think?

Rich, In the CJA list, alloy XK120 #670023 was first owned by Briggs Cunningham in Connecticut in 1949. I can't help noticing the similarity in the chassis numbers 660003 and 670023. Also noted was that 660003 was converted to LHD, and became chassis #670071 on 1-20-1950, with original motor #W1007-7 replaced with W1137-8, and body number F1119 fitted.

This car was discovered by me in a classic car storage facility in Terrytown New York in the early 90s, it was being stored for it's then French owner who had no idea of it's early chassis number the car was red with one nonalloy front wing, I have more infomation if the present owner is interested

This French man was my father. I tried to get him to sell it to my brother and I, but he chose otherwise. I am glad to report it was still capable of 100 mph plus before its sale. Great regret. I can only imagine its worth today.

According to my knowledge 660 003 was the Earls Court Motorshow car. The car got converted to LHD for the ballet dancer Rosella Hightower. The factory issued to the car then the chassis number 670071. The spec of white trim with black piping and white coachwork stayed of course. The bodynumber F1016 stayed with the car as well.
660 003 got the reissued to another car. This is why 660 003 has for example a engine number out of sequence. 670 071 still has visibly 660 003 stamped on the chassis, but bodynumber E 1016 appears on all trim panels and on the bulkhead. The underdash cover reads: show job.
