This 1955 Jaguar XK140 MC roadster was built on March 18, 1955 and distributed to the US through Hornburg Jaguar of Los Angeles, California. It was reportedly purchased by its previous owner in Ohio approximately 45 years ago and was acquired by the selling dealer in late 2020. The car is finished in black with a tan soft top over red leather upholstery and is powered by a numbers-matching 3.4L inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include dual fender-mounted side mirrors, 16” wire wheels with knock-off hubs, and removable side curtains. This XK140 MC is being offered by the selling dealer with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, partial service records, and a clean Pennsylvania title.

Factory-finished in black, the car is said to have undergone a repaint around 40 years ago and has been fitted with a replacement tan soft top. The seller describes areas of touch up around the body, and the removable side curtains are included in the sale.

Silver-painted 16” wire wheels are secured with two-eared knock-off spinners and wrapped in Dunlop Road Speed RS5 tires. Braking is through drums at all four corners, and a full-size spare is found in the trunk. The selling dealer notes that the jack and tool kit are not available.

The cabin was upholstered in red leather from the factory and features a matching dashboard top, door panels, and carpets. Amenities include a dash-mounted rear-view mirror, a passenger-side grab handle, and map pockets in both doors. The seats show signs of discoloration, and seam separation is visible on the driver’s seat bottom.

A four-spoke steering wheel with polished accents sits ahead of a centrally-mounted wood instrument cluster housing Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges for amperage, fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows just under 64k miles, though total mileage is unknown. The tachometer is said to be inoperable, and cracks in the lenses of the speedometer and ammeter can be seen.

The 3.4-liter inline-six features dual SU carburetors and an aluminum radiator. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. An oil change was performed and the battery recently replaced.

Engine block stamping G2855-8S matches the number stamped on the cylinder head as well as that displayed on the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate. The Certificate lists the factory colors and identification numbers along with a completion date of March 18, 1955.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
